The Lake District, also known as The Lakes or Lakeland, is a beautiful rural area in Cumbria, in North West England. One of the most popular holiday destinations in the UK, it is famous for its lakes and its mountains (or fells).

Alfred Wainwright immortalised the fells and dales of the lakes with his series of pictorial guides - a must for walkers, fell runners, mountain bikers and climbers. Cumbria also has spectacular coastline and beaches and is an ideal holiday destination for families.

The main towns include Windermere and Bowness, Ambleside, Grasmere, and Keswick. In addition there are a host of small villages such as Patterdale and Glenridding, which provide ideal bases for holiday makers.

Recently used for the filming of ‘Miss Potter’, a film about Beatrix Potter starring Renee Zellweger, Low Millgillhead offers three self catering Georgian houses within two acres of gardens in the small village of Lamplugh.
